Farmer Maggot Probably Loves Bingo

Keeping on with the bingo trend, here's farmer Maggot!

He showed up in the mail the other day, and I got him painted fairly quickly, quick enough, in fact, to it fit the bingo square for painting a model within 48 hours of receiving it!

Here's the card, since I forgot it last time.

I always liked the Shortcut to Mushrooms chapter in Lord of the Rings. I read the books as a kid, and for some reason I actually liked the slower, more domestic chapters at the beginning. I read and reread Bilbo's party, and the parts where the hobbits are traveling together, before the Barrow Downs. That's still kind of my thing when it comes to reading, I like stories that are small and quiet. Odd for someone basically doing a wargaming blog, I suppose.

A House of Bingo

Did I forget about the LoTR bingo thing? Maybe! But here's a house!

So, I think that counts as building and painting a scenery piece. Huzzah!

Boats and Bingo

Back after a month! Which is not to say I haven't been busy, it's just been with other things. I was in a musical! It was exhausting. The end.

But here's another ship for the fleet!

And here's another box for LoTR Bingo: A hero of fortitude for both good and evil!

In this case we've got Frodo for the forces of good, and a Corsair captain (of course) for evil. He doesn't think he's evil though. Just bit rough around the edges.

Three down! And more to go.

Bingo Post 2

Sorry that I can't come up with a more original title than that, but I'm a bit sick right now. Ah well.

At any rate! (I say that a lot, don't I?) I have checked off one more bingo square, the "start a new army" one.

Who are the new guys, you might ask? And also why?

Well, the why is because I'd been planning to get some of these guys for a while now, so I just up and did it. And the who is Numenor!

We've got 8 warriors with swords and shields, 6 with bows, and three with spears. Obviously they aren't a full army yet, lacking leaders and such, but heck, the box says "start", not "finish."

Hobby Bingo? Hobby Bingo

So, good old GW put up one of them hobby bingo things for LoTR recently. And I thought, why not? I've been needing some encouragement to work on my corsairs, why not give it a go?

 And so I am.

Of course, with the way things work out, my first checked off bingo square has nothing to do with corsairs. I've had another few LoTR minis sitting around for... a while. So long I forgot I had them. So I got around to getting this happy little haradrim warrior painted.

Which checks off the box entitled "Finish off a model that's been on your to-do pile for more than a year"

But fear not! I have managed some work on the corsairs, including painting bases for a few of them. (The bases are meant to look like the decks of ships, it's ok if you didn't see that)

A step closer!

Still Working on those Corsairs

They've turned out to be a longer project than I anticipated, but then again, I do work extremely slowly. And I try to do too many things.

So perhaps I should have done a bit more anticipating. Ah well!

I've also just plain had trouble choosing a color scheme for them. But heck, they're pirates! They should be colorful and wild, right?

Back with Elves and a New Project!

It's been a busy time in my life, in a good way. And by that I mean that I am now married! It was a longer journey than any of us expected, I think, thanks to covid, but we got there, and things could not have been more perfect. Even when a grasshopper landed on my wife during the wedding. I mean, we decided to take that as a good omen. Grasshoppers are good signs, right?

Anyhow, I have had time for hobby related nonsense recently, so here it is!

First off, my nephews were visiting for the wedding, and one of them helped me finish off the elf horse archers!

He did a really amazing job! There's bits that need work, but heck, that applies to my own painting too. Maybe even more so. For 10 years old, he's doing just fine.

And for my next project... well, I ended up with a lot more than I initially meant to.

I grew up reading the lord of the rings, literally. My parents read the books to me and my sisters as bed time stories. So it's really surprising that I've never picked any of these up before. I went with the corsairs of umbar because I always found them a bit intriguing, plus they look like they'll be fun to paint! We shall see.
