Orktober? Kind of.

Short post here, but another square on the bingo sheet, for painting a miniature that's gone unpainted for a year or more!

In this case, it's probably more like ten years, this guy has been sitting around for... a while.

Still, more progress every time. And plenty of time left to score a bingo.

Been a While (One More Time)

Life: it gets busy. In mostly good ways, I should say, I've had lots of good times with family, I'm involved in the local production of Into the Woods, my job is going well. But it's busy, and I kept forgetting to update here. But now that changes!

Going to keep it simple for now, though. The main thing for today is another bingo square! In this case, it's the Paint a New Starter Set square. Now, I'll admit that it's not the biggest set of them all:

But it still counts! (It's the new beginner set for Age of Sigmar which I picked up on a bit of a whim)

I ended up going with a bit of a challenge for these guys, I decided to paint using (almost) only the six paints that came with the set. And I'm pretty happy with them! The bases and the wash are the only non set paints.

So that's the update for today. Hopefully there will genuinely be more soon.

Spring Break!

Rather, my niece and nephews had spring break, which was nice, because it meant that they could come up to visit and hang out and paint with their strange uncle! And thus we did.

We painted some hero quest figures, and my nephew brought up a few miniatures of his own (Tau and Necron guys, I believe) that he's been gifted. The ones pictured he painted, and he even gave them snowy and icy bases of his own design! A good time overall.

A few days later we got in a game of Fireteam, the Kill Team lite that I actually prefer. My second oldest nephew and I played, and the game ended in a tie. (There's a mechanism for settling ties, but we decided to leave it that way)

Fun times for all, and also two bingo squares. Though in this case that's the least important part.

A Small Hero the Size of a Large Hero

It's been a bit again! Well, I had surgery, and I'm recovering well. Had some time once I was through the worst of post op unpleasantness to do some painting, so here's an example!

He's an ogre, from cursed city, I think, but also he was just a lot of fun to paint! And also he gets to count for a bingo square: paint a hero!

Huzzah and such!

Necromunda Bingo

Game 3 of Necromunda, and this one was quite fun! My wife played Squats again, while I rolled out my Orlocks once more. Our gracious host set up a very impressive board, while playing GSC.

The goal this time was to grab some boxes from the center of the board, and then make a mad dash to the edge. I tried to keep a bit more focused on that goal this time, and it paid off, for the most part. There was a fun moment where my two gangers carrying two cases managed to both get hit by a grenade blast, which was fun. We had to wrap things up before the official end, and I was in the lead, but it could have easily swung the other way.

     Action Shot!

Overall a blast, and also another bingo square to check off!

New Year Necromunda

A new year! And I've got the chance to play a couple of games of Necromunda with some friends. Two casual games, one where I played as Squats, the other where I played as Orlocks. I'm pretty sure I lost both, but the experience itself was fun, and that's the important part.

The first game (board pictured above) mainly involved my Squats repeatedly being hit in the head by falling debris, and then falling off of ledges.

The second involved my wife taking charge of the Squats and proceeding to slaughter everyone who came within gun range. Good times for all!

One More Necromunda For the Year

It's beem quite the year. And mostly in... not so good ways, at least for me. But there have been positive things, among them getting to play some fun games with my family and friends, which is a little thing, but still worthwhile.

And I get to have one more game, tomorrow, for the end of the year, because it turns out a friend of mine also plays some Necromunda, and they're interested in a casual game or two. So here's my new team, a little squad of space dwarf miners (or ironhead squats, as GW likes to call them.

There will probably be a post about that game once 2024 rolls around. Until then!

A Little Guy

Interesting fact: I was in a Games Workshop store recently. Haven't been in one of those for a while. Mainly the goal was to get my nephew a few orks, he really likes them and has been getting more and more into painting on his own, which is neat! The other neat thing is that both of us got free minis out of the deal.

So here's my little steelhelm, painted using a mix of craft and gw paints, because why not?

They can join up with the shieldmaidens for some adventures, I think.

Necromunda!

I meant to post this last month but oh well! I've had these necromunda figures sitting around for a few years, but thanks to a bit of inspiration from the mantic fan discord, I got them painted!

(The inspiration was to paint things pink)

I like them, but they're not the most fun to paint, as is often the case for GW minis. Just a little too busy for my tastes, and for my complete lack of skill.

Family Gaming

I've mentioned painting with my nephews and niece a couple of times recently, I think. I've managed to spend about a month with them, which is quite a lot, considering they normally live more than 400 miles away. In that time we managed to get a lot of painting in, and a few games as well. So here's a few pictures celebrating that!

First off is this, the main project for their visit. This is one of the Barnes and Noble boxed set games, Fireteam, basically a simplified board game version of GW's Kill Team. The 2nd oldest of my nephews painted most of the Space Marines, while everyone painted some of the Necrons. The blue one in particular was painted by my 3 1/2 year old niece. (She's very proud of it, and also of the fact that she's 3 1/2)

2nd oldest nephew and I also played a game of Fireteam, and while I know I got some of the rules wrong, it was still a good time. Plus the rules I got wrong worked out in his favor, and he managed to stomp me and my Necrons quite handily.

I'm not a competetive gamer, this is the kind of game that I really value. Just getting time with the people I love, on the hobby that I enjoy. I've been fortunate this month.

A Boid!

That's right. Specifically, a warhammer warband boid. My nephew helped me pick out the colors, I think he's getting a really good sense of them!

It's a bit hard to tell in this picture, but the body is kind of a scaly green. I quite like it.

A Warband (With Puppies)

Games Workshop miniatures! Will wonders never cease. Well, I had to get these guys, they've got pet puppies!

Probably should have taken a better picture of the puppies but oh well. I know these guys are for underworlds, but I haven't got the rules for that these days. I'm on the lookout for a good possibly free miniatures agnostic fantasy skirmish game. Which is quite the set of words.
