Mini Battle Report #2

With time on my hands today, and not much else, I decided to play the next scenario in the KoW box set. In the last battle, the goblins emerged victorious. Now, they face the Ratkin once again, in the dominate scenario. Who will win? Probably one of them and not an unnamed third party! That would just be strange.

Also I have a new table which is meant to also work as a train table. Think of them as underground minecart tracks if you so wish.

Both sides march boldly towards the center, hoping to gain control over the mines and their precious lodes of... I don't know, copper maybe. Copper is neat. Strange runes dot the center of the field. The rats are wary of the approaching trolls, who did so much damage in the last battle. They attempt a flanking move.

The goblins move to take the center, but the night terror is swift (and terrifying). Not only does it manage to charge the trolls, but with savage claws and cruel talons and such, it wounds the poor beasts enough to send them running for the underground hills! (Did three damage, and then rolled a 12 for morale)

The goblins are in trouble here. If they don't deal with the terror, it could easily tear through them like something sharp and tearing.

The wiz and the spitters concentrate all of their fire, both bows and magical lightning alike, upon the beast. After the carnage, they found they have inflicted... three damage. But then, to their amazement, the night terrors turns and runs. The beast is actually gentle, and hurt by all of the hostility. (Rolled an 11!)

After that, the center descended into a slugfest. Eventually the wiz was forced to flee, and while both sides still had two regiments in the fight, the presence of the Ratkin leader was enough to give them the victory. The goblins left the field, hurt but not broken.

(Things got a bit dull for the last few turns, and I stopped taking pictures.)

1 victory for the goblins, and 1 for the Ratkin! It all comes down to the last battle, which will be... whenever I get around to it.

Spear Elf Regiment Done

Yep! So that's... one unit down, two more to go.

I am not fast.

I wanted to vary the unit up a bit, so I put some of the bits from the ballista kit in with the elves. I imagine them as supplies of some kind.

Suprise Mini Battle Report

I've had an itch to play an actual game of Kings of War for a bit now, so yesterday I sat down and did so! I played a game... against myself.

I know! It's exciting as can be. Well, I had to find an opponent somewhere, and I have done a pretty good job at being my own enemy in the past.

This was also inspired by the fact that I aquired and put together the new starter set from Mantic. So enjoy this report, where an army of Ratkin faces off against Goblins, all unpainted, on an undersized table.

The two sides face off in a "pillage" scenario, the priceless artifacts represented by domino pieces.

The ratkin march forward boldly, or squeakily, and the night terror lopes off to the side, hoping to flank the unsuspecting Goblin spitters. An exchange of lighting bolts and arrows does minor damage.

A mighty charge is sounded and the rats smash into the trolls and spear goblins! Unfortunately both units hold, and they must ready themselves for the counterattack.

The trolls smash their opponents and reform to face the sneaking night terror with ease. Far more surprising is the fight between the spear goblins and the ratkin. The goblins only manage to skewer a few of their opponents, but this is still enough to send the rest fleeing in terror. The ratkin army has been wiped out in a matter of moments.

The Ratkin commander isn't ready to give up just yet. He's going to wipe out those spitters at the very least, and get some revenger. The night terror charges and tears goblins apart left and right... and the spitters hold.

The inevitable happens and the happy trolls smash the night terror into the dirt. The Ratkin leader, now the leader of no one, wisely slinks off to fight another day. The goblin leader remembers the actual objective at the last minute and claims one objective, winning the game!

Well, it was fun! And good example of how a bad (or good) morale role can change things very quickly.

Back to Elves (Kind of) A Treeherder?

This is an interesting figure, it's not mantic but I think that the base size and, well, size would make for a good tree herder.

Either way, it was fun to paint up. And I think this one is a case where I actually managed to pull off a bit of drybrushing!
